Graduates!

Graduates!

Have you started to think about what you are going to give this year as a graduation gift? In fact do you know anyone that is graduating? In America graduation is a big deal, whether it’s graduating from high school or college – a big fuss is made over this rite of passage. In the UK, we celebrate graduation usually after someone has obtained a degree, now there will be a lot of people who will have completed their exams over the past few months and finished their final years. Results are looming and soon they will be finding out whether all their hard work has paid off. Yes, I am sure that they have spent many a day (and night) living the high life and partying to all hours of the morning, but you can’t get good grades in a degree if you don’t put the work in. A lot of time and effort has to be put into your personal study and research in order to get the best out of a degree. I know that when I completed my degree I was extremely proud, I did it while working full time and through the open university and so my graduation was very important to me. I also hoped that my family would feel as proud as I was about the achievement as I was the first person in our family to achieve a degree. And you know what, I think they were. I was really spoiled in relation to my degree… before graduation, when the results came and they found out how well I had done.. I was taken out for dinner, as well as taken on a shopping spree with my mum! That was just the start of my graduation gifts, on the big day itself after all the pomp and ceremony had taken place, it was time to receive some more graduation gifts… my dad had had two engraved frames made for me, one for my graduation photo and one for my graduation certificate. I could tell how proud he was of his daughter.

I do believe that when parents see their children suceed in life, it makes them swell with pride. They know that their kids will be alright because first they have the ability to know what it means to “finish” something. A lot of students drop out of university because they think it’s too hard or because they have chosen the wrong course, they drop out with the intention of going back and starting a new course in the new academic year. But they don’t. They don’t finish what they started. It’s an important quality in a person to be able to finish something, the completion of a degree is just that… the finish of something difficult with a great reward at the end!

Now when it comes to celebrating graduation, there is the usual tradition amongst the students to finally let their hair down and party hard before they head out in to the harsh realities of life. However for those of us who are not fellow students but who still want to show our pride at this new graduates success, we can also get involved by giving a graduation gift!

There are a number of gifts that you could give as a graduation gift, like I said earlier my parents took me out for dinner and on a shopping spree and my dad had two engraved frames for my graduation photo and certificate made as gifts. Now I do believe an engraved frame is a great idea, the fun part about graduation is getting dressed up in the graduation robe and cap and posing for that infamous photo of throwing your cap in the air! You’ll need somewhere to display these photos! But if you want to get something a little less practical and something that screams celebration then a bottle of champagne would be the perfect choice. What says “let’s celebrate” more than a bottle of bubbly? Now obviously I would advocate the personalised champagne or engraved champagne variety, quite simply because it’s that extra bit special. Though there is nothing at all wrong with giving a bottle of Moet et Chandon and a gift card! But a bit of personality doesn’t cost that much and certainly adds value to the gift that you give. I’m sure that lucky recipient will be quite happy though whichever gift you choose to give them as a graduation gift.

Graduation is an important part of a person’s life. It’s the point that all their hard work comes together, pays off and gets recognised. Join in a celebrate with them and show them how proud you are of their achievement.

Exams are over and done with… well just about. Results will soon be announced and then it’s time for the moment that all students have been waiting for! Graduation.

But what is graduation and why is it so important to celebrate it? Graduation is a cultural tradition termed as a rite of passage. It is the ceremony that marks one stage of a person’s life to another. For me it signifies the transition of being a young adult with no real cares in the world into being a full fledged grown up! American’s and numerous other countries have graduation at the both primary and secondary level, as well as when a student graduates university. However in the UK you usually only graduate once when you complete a degree or equivalent. If you choose to complete a Masters or higher then you will also have a graduation for these qualifications too. The majority of students usually complete a degree and then go on to the big wide world to find a job and thus will only graduate once – there are only a few people who will choose to continue in their educational advancement.

If people only intend to graduate once then it really is a big deal! They’ve worked hard at university, studying, sitting through lectures, writing dissertations and revising for exams. Although a lot of us perceive university to be a time to “party” – which I am sure it is, it is not possible to get good grades without putting the work in! Those who are about to graduate probably want you to join in and celebrate with them, they’ve worked hard, played hard and now it’s time to reap the rewards. If you are lucky enough to be invited to the graduation then you’ll see first hand how proud each of these graduates are of their achievements.

It is a good idea to help honour the achievements of these hard working individuals with a graduation gift of some sort… there are lots of things that you could give as a graduation gift… for example an engraved frame in which the graduate can display in all it’s glory a photo from the graduation with them dressed in all their finery. Or you could give a bottle of champagne, either an engraved champagne gift or a personalised champagne gift to mark the occasion. There are so many gifts that you could give for this special occasion.

Do you know what my favourite part of a graduation is? Right at the end when they toss the graduation caps

into the air to signify a new beginning! I’ve always wondered where this tradition came from, along with the gown and cap which graduates wear at the ceremony! I do love the tradition of it all though. There is a lot of controversy that surrounds tossing the caps in the air and it can be deemed as disrespectful! But I like it… it’s a bit of fun, before the reality of the real world kicks in! Our Black Suede Graduation Frame with Hat would make a wonderful gift as a graduation gift.

Ready to graduate!

Ready to graduate!

Graduation Gifts

University students up and down the country will be sitting their exams during the months of May and June. Many of those will be in their final year and soon it will be time for them to graduate. Graduation is a really important time in a person’s life. It is the final show that all their hardwork has paid off, they have achieved their degree and it’s time for them to go out into the real world. For me when I finally got my results and saw that I had done really well and knew that I would soon be graduating.. I was really excited! I couldn’t wait to go up and collect my degree, to dress up in my graduation clothes and don the infamous graduates cap! I just could not wait… I’m sure the feeling is the same for a lot of people. A degree takes time and effort. This time and effort should be rewarded. The simplest way to do this is to give a graduation gift.

For my graduation I was given an engraved photo frame in which to display my ‘degree’. The engraved frame was a graduation gift from my parents.

They’d had it made especially for the big day and when I opened it I realised it was the perfect present because I needed somewhere to put my degree… I also was given a personalised pen from my grandparents. They wanted me to use it when I started my first job in the real world and that’s exactly what I did. Although these gifts were simple… I still use them today.

You don’t just have to give a “practical” graduation gift like my family gave to me, there are plenty of other gifts that you can give too… a firm favourite is personalised champagne and engraved champagne. Graduation is a reason to celebrate and champagne is the perfect drink to celebrate with! Personalised champagne and engraved champagne are a bit more special in comparison to giving a bottle of branded champagne, quite simply because you’ve taken the time to personalise the champagne with your own special thoughts and happy wishes.

Photo frames are a lovely graduation gift, a graduation is a prime time to take photos… you obviously need somewhere to put these photos and a photoframe that was given as a gift for your graduation seems like the perfect option.

Whatever you choose to give as a graduation gift, just remember the girl or boy who is recieving the degree has worked hard, stayed up late revising and sat through gruelling exams to achieve their degree, give them a gift that shows just how proud you are.
