When it comes to buying gifts at Christmas, you can all of a sudden get really stuck. What on earth do you buy? Christmas presents become really generic – how many different variations of perfume gift packs do you see when you head into your local cosmetics shop? A whole lot I tell you! I’m quite lucky that I do my Christmas shopping throughout the year so I never really have that problem. It’s only when it comes to the office secret santa that I come a bit unstuck. We start out office secret santa at the beginning of December. It’s a tradition that on the first Monday of Decemeber we all put our name into a hat so that another lucky co-worker can pick it out and buy us our very own office Christmas gift! It’s a good tradition. But sometimes it’s just really hard to know what to buy as a christmas gift especially if you don’t know the person who you’ve got that well. So the past week or so we’ve been trying to help our staff out by giving them some ideas of what different people would like for Christmas… no one knows who has got who as their secret santa but hopefully this will give them some help!

he’s not really a fan of the cold weather. So possibly he might like a holiday to somewhere sunny and warm?! But now lets get back to presents that are more realistic. Asgar is quite partial to a drop of whisky so he thinks that a good gift for him would perhaps be one of our personalised whisky bottles or one of our engraved brand gifts… more specifically our Jack Daniels Whisky Set. “I like the idea of personalised whisky as firstly I like to drink whisky, secondly whisky is great to drink when it’s cold so it’s apt for Christmas and thirdly personalised whisky has that personal touch seen as the label can be designed to suit what I like! It’s personal to me”. So… hint hint, get him a bottle of personalised whisky!

However he also quite likes to drink tea and coffee. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in the office without a mug of something hot his hand! So perhaps this perfect office secret santa gift would be a personalised mug. If Asgar’s secret santa wants to get him something that extra bit special then he did mention that he would not mind a bottle of personalised champagne. In the corporate world you are often working with a lot of people so it can be almost impossible to get everyone you work with a Christmas gift without breaking the bank. Fear not, that’s where they tradition of Secret Santa Gifts comes in! In our office we have that exact tradition going on year in year out. We put all our employee names into a hat and then each person has to picks out a name – that is the person that they will be buying their Secret Santa Gift for. In our office we’ve all chosen who we are buying gifts for and now it’s time to get cracking and buy that gift! But what to buy as a Christmas gift?  To make life easier we have decided to let everyone know what our ideal presents would be this festive season… yesterday Hanifa told us what she would like from her secret santa as a Christmas gift and today it is Michael’s turn! He is our resident sound engineer – sorting out music for videos, making sure our IT systems work well and general just fixing technical problems – he’s also pretty handy when it comes to designing too.

Staying with the theme of engraved gifts, Michael also mentioned that he wouldn’t mind one our our engraved digital piggy banks (not one of our pink ones though, because they are for girls!). He likes that fact that the engraved digital piggy bank counts up all his spare change. At the moment he doesn’t have a piggy bank and so all his change just ends up in his pockets – we regularly hear him jingling through the office! Quite apt for Christmas though.

Not being too greedy but if the budget allows Michael would also be quite happy to recieve one of our personalised bottle gifts… there’s quite a few to choose from but

his personal favourite would be one our engraved brand gifts – the Jack Daniels Whisky Set. He’s quite partial to drop of whisky and his favourite brand just happens to be Jack Daniels… so a great Christmas gift idea for him. As with the engraved pen he claims that he would appreciate the gift a whole lot more because it would have that sentimental touch! Personally I think he just wants the whisky! However the gift set can be used as a storage place for future bottles of Jack Daniels and would look great in a display cabinet or even on the mantlepiece!

What is a Secret Santa Gift?

Secret Santa is a Western Christmas Gift tradition in which a group of people are assigned others members of the group to buy gifts for. The selection of the secret santa is random usually done by the names of the group being put in to a hat and then the name are chosen by the member of the group picking the names out of the hat. Simple. The gift should then be given anonymously. This practise of Secret Santa Gifts often occurs in the workplaces, or amongst large families. The participants of the Secret Santa are voluntary and often it is a way to ensure that costs are kept low.

If you and your friends/work mates/family (choose are required) decide to practise the tradition of Secret Santa Gift giving this Christmas then here are a few ideas of gifts that you could give:

1) If you want to give an extra special present this Christmas (with Secret Santa you should hopefully have the budget to be able to push the boat out a little) then the gift you should be thinking about getting is a bottle of personalised champagne. Champagne is the drink of choice for celebration as I have told you time and time again! When people want to mark a special occasion they get out the champagne and toast to success, Christmas too is a special occasion and so we should celebrate it too.
