Christmas is nearly here….

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Oh my goodness… I was out and about in town over the weekend for some light retail therapy, when suddenly I walked into a shop to hear Christmas songs playing… its AUGUST!!!!!!! How can Christmas songs be playing already and to be honest how can anything Christmas related be happening already? I’m so confused. I mean when I was in New York there was the whole “Christmas in July” thing, but that’s a gimic – a bit of fun BUT this however this was full on – “Christmas is coming, don’t forget to buy your crackers” in your face Christmas advertising. It was crazy and I was a little bit scared.

But then this got me thinking… Christmas is just over four months away and at the moment I know that I am definitely feeling the pinch… so I kind of think that maybe there is some value to this getting ready for Christmas early malarky. I mean for years I have been shopping all the way until Christmas eve to sort out everyone’s Christmas Gifts and I can’t tell you how stressful it is. There is this big mad rush and everyone seems to lose perspective and just become like animals – grabbing for the last toy, pushing and shoving and being rude because items are just out of stock. Just because it is Christmas does mean that everyone needs to go crazy. I like the idea of planning early… it makes life simple. But I also like the idea of online shopping too, it makes the idea of Christmas Gift shopping more bearable – knowing that you are not going to have to brave the shops and all those crazy frantic Christmas shoppers.

Shopping online for Christmas Gifts has a number of advantages:

1) You are free to browse at your leisure without having to worry about all the other people in the shop.
2) There are no queues – to stand in line is a very British thing to do and during the run up to Christmas the lines can get pretty long… so shopping online means that you cut out the queue and you can just get straight to paying when you decide what you want.
3) Online retailers often advertise bargains and great deals during the Christmas period, whereas I feel like high street shops mark up their prices to make the most of the Christmas trade. I do feel sometimes that I get ripped off and I don’t like it. If you shop around online you are very likely to find Christmas Gifts that are much cheaper than those you would find on the high street.
4) Online stores often also get in a range of products that are just specific to Christmas and therefore they are lines that are “limited edition” and therefore you probably wont find them anywhere else… which makes alot of sites more appealing than high street shops. I know that we get a lot of lines at Christmas that are normally not available the rest of the year round. At Christmas people are looking for something a bit different, no one wants to give another pair of ‘socks’ to their loved ones!
5) You can also shop 24 hours on online sites as they are accessible at all hours of the day. So you don’t have to worry about the closing times of stores – you just need to think about what you want to get and then purchase it, it doesn’t matter if it is at 3am in the morning.

There are plenty of other great reasons to shop online and above are just a few reasons. All I know is that online shopping has made shopping for me a lot more fun at Christmas … I like to get all the main Christmas Gifts online nowadays and then go and wonder the shops to see if I find something that I might like to get someone, but I don’t worry or fret about shopping at Christmas because I know if push came to shove I could get all my Christmas Gifts online with no hassle! The worst they could do is that it is out of stock. I would say however that just to be on the safe side and to make sure that everything arrives in time make sure you do your Christmas shopping a good couple of weeks before Christmas day. NO ONE IS GOING TO DELIVER TO YOU IF YOU ORDER ON CHRISTMAS EVE. It’s just not going to happen!!

Father and Son Playing

Father and Son Playing

Father’s Day will soon be here. My dad is one of these people who are really hard to buy for. He doesn’t need anything and if he does then he will go and get it himself. He is MASSIVE Star Trek fan…. I had planned to get the DVD of the latest film for him as a gift, but just as I had thought about it – he had gone and bought it himself! In some ways that is good, it saves me a lot of cash. However in other ways it’s rather annoying because when it comes to buying him birthday gifts and Father’s Day gifts then I have no idea what to get him.

My dad is a big family man, he always gets a bit sad and blue when he doesn’t see his kids, parents or cousins very often. Being brought up in a large family means he enjoys seeing the people that mean the most to him regularly…. knowing this it got me thinking. Sometimes we can’t make it home at the weekends or life takes over and you end up missing opportunities to catch up with loved ones. But it doesn’t mean that you aren’t thinking of them and they aren’t thinking of you. Father’s Day is one such holiday. This year I am going to be away in Australia… much to my dad’s dismay. I know he’ll be a bit sad that all his kids aren’t around him but what can you do…. like I said your “own” life takes over. BUT… I didn’t want him to think I had forgotten him. So as a Father’s Day gift I wanted to get him something really special, that would make him think I was there in spirit. Something unique to him and something that was personal from me…. and what could be better than a personalised gift? I’ve actually got him a mixture of things (I hope he doesn’t read this you know else this is going to ruin the surprise, there is still a month to go!!!)… first off I got him a personalised photo frame, I ordered it as an engraved photo frame so that I could put my own personal message on it – I’m not going to tell you what I wrote because that is private :D but I will say that it’s a message that would mean a lot to him! So anyway I’ve gone for the engraved photo frame with the personalised message, this gift is perfect because I’ve put a photo of the whole family in it. It’s a photo from when we were younger and when we went to Blackpool and we bought him a helicopter ride for his birthday! Though it’s an old photo it’s a great memory.

Now along with the personalised photo frame, I’ve also got him a bottle of personalised champagne and a set of engraved champagne flutes. The champagne bottle has a label which I have designed for him, again I used the Blackpool photo because of it’s sentimental value. Also I want to create a bit of a champagne gift set and it seemed better to make it so that all the gifts matched. I had the flutes engraved with the same message that I put on the photo frame and on the champagne label, I tried to make that like the greetings card… telling him that I was “Sorry I couldn’t be there for Father’s Day” – I do hope this gift will do enough to remind him, that though I’m not there for Father’s Day, I’ll still be there in spirit and obviously could never forget him!

Below is a great way to make a personalised greetings card this Father’s Day:

Stuck on what to buy? – why go for Personalised?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

I like the idea of a personalised gift. Why? – because it is personalised… so it’s unique and no one else will have anything quite like it. So if there is the option to personalise then I will go for it. For example, for my sister’s birthday I knew she wanted an iPod so being the lovely sister that I am I bought her one for her birthday. They offer the option to engrave as you go through to the check out, so naturally being a fan of “personalisation” I went for it. When she opened it and saw what was written on it, I knew that the gift meant more to her… it wasn’t just an iPod. It was something special that her sister had given her! – that is what matters. It’s not just the gift, it’s about the thought that goes into it.

Champagne gifts are one of the few gift ideas that you can’t go wrong with. Majority of people like and drink champagne and it is one of those luxury items. There are so many options when looking into buying champagne and often there is something great to fit your budget. Alot of companies now offer personalised champagne gifts these are great because

you can create a “unique luxury gift” that has the WOW factor. I know many just like us offer the option to have engraved champagne as well as the option to design your own champagne. I like the idea of designing your own champagne label to make a unique photo gift. With our design software it’s possible to design your label either by choosing one of our labels or buy uploading an image of your own and writing in your own unique text. Those labels are always my favourite. It’s shows the thought that is put into them.  I think most people would be pretty chuffed to receive a champagne gift with a funky photo and witty message… well like I have been trying to hint in this entire post… “I WOULD REALLY LIKE IT”.

As I mention in the post “The Photo Frame – why we like it!” – photos are a really important aspect of our lives. Everyone takes pictures and everyone wants to show off the photos that mean something to them. The personalised champagne gift is just another example of a “photo frame” – another way for people to display something special.

Go for a Champagne Gift Set when you need a “budget” gift?

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Today’s post has two jobs, first to tell you about our range of champagne gift sets and the second is to discuss buying gifts on a budget, which let’s face it; alot of us do nowadays whether we want to or not.

If you a looking for a gift on a budget but still want it to have that luxurious feel then you should take a look at this article: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/notes/giftsonline4ucom/buying-a-nice-gift-on-a-budget/381011808197. It’s a good article because it outlines the types of champagne gift sets that we have and the price categories that they fall under… so however you look at it, whether you want a house champagne gift set, a brand champagne gift set, a personalised champagne gift set or a luxury champagne gift set, we have something to offer you!

Champagne Gift Sets are a great ideas because they are simple and make really unique gifts, especially if you decide to go down the route of personalisation. A personalised bottle of champagne, whether it is personalised with engraving or with a label, makes it a really interesting gift. Not many people have their own unique champagne… it’s a one of a kind gift. But if you don’t have the budget to go personalised or luxury then we still have all our House Standard Champagne Gift Sets that are just as good! When you pair a bottle of bubbly with a set of engraved champagne flutes or just champagne flutes in general then you are onto a winner.

Now I’ve done my bit of “selling” for the day – I don’t actually think I’m really selling you anything… I’m just presenting some options! ;) I would like to get onto the real point of today’s post…. budget gifts and what you need to do to find the right one! (Obviously my first reaction is to say choose one of our champagne gift sets….BUT I know champagne isn’t everyone’s cup of tea… )

BUYING BUDGET GIFTS

Unless by some crazy chance you and the person you are buying for shop in exactly the same store and have exactly the same taste in gifts it is very unlikely that the recipient of your gift is ever going to know how much your gift (unless you leave the price tag on) BUT nor should they want to. So how do you find a great gift on a budget? Here are a few golden rules:

1) GET FOCUSED: Keep your goal in mind. If you are giving someone a present for a wedding, then focus on this…. you know you’re looking for a wedding gift, the price tag with come after this. Buy what you can afford, with their taste in mind.

2) Keep a list of who you need to buy for, you’ll need this throughout the year… Its a good idea to have this written down in a spiral notebook, as the size allows for very easy hiding and will be the last place anyone would think to look into to find out about gifts. When you are out and about you see something one of your friends might like for a birthday or Christmas gift – if it’s in your price range – GET IT. You can cross them off your list and you don’t need to worry about their gift anymore!

3) Clearance items and discounted items are a must – everyone of us knows that you may buy a top at full price, two weeks later it’ll be in the sale at half it’s original value! This is a perfect place to look to get upwards of 50% off on expensive gifts. Many stores will have a clearance rack/area and many websites have clearance pages to sell items like this. But remember, just because you find something at 10% off doesn’t mean it will not go down farther if you wait a little longer (it might be sold by then!), be sure to use good judgment when buying on clearance.

4) Closing down sales are also pretty good! This is when anything in the store will be discounted. Don’t be ashamed to use this to your advantage. (Fair enough the store is going out of business, but why should you suffer too? – it’s discounted for a reason.) I have found many nice gifts during store closings and you can to. The only main problem is that some of the better items go first at a store closing, so its best to go as soon as possible to find those perfect gifts.

5) Storage: Be sure to hide the gifts so that it will be in the last place anyone would expect to look. This can be a locked closet, attic, back of the basement, or as far as a friends house. Be sure to find the best spot for your needs.

6) If you can sew, cook, work with wood or have other creative talent, consider making something. Someone with calligraphy skills could provide a handwritten love poem. Most couples will cherish a wedding quilt made for them by a friend or an heirloom handed down to recognize the big event.

7) Don’t be ashamed to use points! We build up our Nectar card points for a reason!

Budget gives are necessary at times, but it doesn’t mean that because you’re on a budget you’ll be giving someone a rubbish gift, put a little thought in and you could find something great at a discounted price!
